After a workplace accident seriously injured one man in Jenkinsburg, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) became involved immediately to review the work environment and circumstances surrounding the incident. Since the investigation began, LKQ Corp. has been cited for three safety violations. In November 2011, a vehicle fell off the assembly line and struck a worker below. The man suffered several internal injuries and a broken hip as a result. The accident could have been prevented, OSHA claims, since an internal report filed by an independent contractor before the accident spoke about the danger of the automobile lift. In the document, the contractor stated that the lifts were improperly modified and posed a threat to the workers.
In addition to the dangerous lift conditions, the company was cited for exposure to corrosive products without proper eye protection and not having handrails on a stairwell. The company received an $8,000 fine for both of these reported violations. Were you hurt while on the job?
