Our team at Katz, Leidman, Freund & Herman is proud to help clients with their matters concerning workplace injuries or accidents. Recently, we saw amazing success in a case we handled regarding a shelter staff worker. In Case #1674/2011 which was handled at the Brooklyn Supreme Court, our team argued on behalf of a client who worked at a homeless shelter and was attacked by a manic resident.
The defendant in this lawsuit was FJC Security Services, which is a security firm that employs the guards that stand outside of the homeless shelter where our client worked. The security firm already had a bad reputation. They were fired by Port Authority in July of 2013 after several on-duty guards were noted dozing off at the JFK airport. In this case, the security firm that let a manic resident back into the building after she was ejected because of her behavior and unpredictability.
Our client was harmed in October of 2009 FJC Security allowed the dangerous woman back into the shelter. That woman then attacked our client. The brutal assault left our client with serious spinal injuries that we determined will call for continuous treatment. She will need a spinal-cord stimulator implant for the rest of her life as well as a pacemaker.
Our team was able to successfully secure a $13 million verdict from the security firm.
