NY Corrections Officer Accused of Stealing $20K in Workers’ Comp Benefits

MORAVIA, N.Y. – A corrections officer who worked for the Cayuga Correctional Facility was arrested on Aug. 20 on charges that he filed approximately $20,000 worth of false workers’ compensation claims.

T. Larrabee, 28, of Central Square, received over $20,000 in leave and wage replacements and workers’ compensation benefits that he was not entitled to, according to Cayuga County District Attorney Jon Budelmann.

Larrabee is being accused of submitting false claims between Aug. 12, 2014 and Oct. 3, 2014.

During that two month span, Larrabee executed an elaborate scheme to fraudulently receive workers’ compensation benefits.

He pretended to be his medical provider and forged several claims, and submitted the forged documents to the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, Budelmann said.

On Aug. 20, Larrabee turned himself in at the state police barracks in Auburn. He was indicted on four felony counts of fraud and arraigned in Fleming Town Court. He was booked at the Cayuga County jail on $1,000 cash bail.

In a statement Budelmann said that Larrabee is accused of fabricating and altering medical records so he could avoid fulfilling his duties. In doing so, Larrabee showed a blatant disregard for New York taxpayers, his co-workers’ safety, and his reputation, he said.

The investigation of Larrabee was a collaborative effort between the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office, the New York State Insurance Fund, the state Workers’ Compensation Office, and the NYS Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.
